What is LNH?

  • LNH is the quality label and community for leading nursing homes and senior residences. Our members offer:

    • High quality nursing & care

    • Excellent hospitality services

    • Welcoming and safe infrastructure

    • Professional management

LNH was founded in 2025 by pioneering nursing homes in Switzerland to contribute to the continuous improvement of quality in long-term care.

The certification of LNH members is based on the innovative Nursing Home Assessment Instrument (NH-AI-360), developed by industry experts. Using 100 criteria across four dimensions – nursing & care, hospitality & services, infrastructure, and leadership – LNH identifies and recognizes nursing homes that demonstrate comprehensive excellence.

LNH members are part of a unique community representing the top 10% of market leaders and have access to regular exchange formats and benchmarking opportunities to further drive quality and innovation in long-term care and nursing homes.

  • Leading Nursing Homes (LNH) is for:

    • Seniors and family members who seek the highest quality of life – from nursing care to hospitality when choosing a nursing home or senior residence.

    • Employees who want to work in an institution that upholds the highest standards across all areas and is recognized as a leading nursing home.

    • Institution leaders who wish to exchange ideas, compare practices, and learn from other top-performing nursing homes.

Nursing Home, Retirement and Nursing Homes
  • Any long-term care institution can apply for membership with LNH.

    • An experienced team of two auditors evaluates the institution based on the 100 criteria of the “Nursing Home Assessment Instrument 360” (NH-AI-360).

    • Upon successful certification, Leading Nursing Homes are identifiable by the official LNH logo and plaque.

    • Through regular exchange and benchmarking, LNH members inspire not only the community but the entire sector – setting new impulses for quality and innovation in long-term care.

  • Institutions for older people and long-term care face significant challenges in multiple respects.

First, a variety of stakeholder groups must be taken into account. For residents, the institution is a place of living; for employees, it is a place of work. Living and working follow different logics, rhythms and perceptions of time. For relatives, the central concern is the comprehensive care of their family member; for funding bodies, the focus lies on an efficient and transparent cost structure. As intergenerational institutions – bringing together older residents and generally younger care professionals – care homes are particularly dependent on constructive and respectful cooperation between generations.

Second, institutions for older people and long-term care are subject to continuous change, whether through new medical and nursing approaches or through technological innovation. They are confronted with fundamental ethical questions, for example in dealing with people living with dementia or in addressing issues related to the end of life. At the same time, care homes are affected by persistent negative stereotypes which – although often distorted – shape public perception. When everything functions well and smoothly, it tends to go unnoticed. Isolated negative incidents, however, are frequently generalized in a disproportionate manner.

These challenges can be addressed, but they require constant attention, best ensured through regular quality assessment. A recognized quality label – periodically reviewed and dynamically adapted – can strengthen the trust of current and future residents and their relatives. From a human resources perspective, a quality label that is accompanied by a culture of appreciation and respect can facilitate the recruitment of qualified professionals and reduce costly staff turnover.

What is essential, however, is that a quality label does not remain an isolated event. Qualitative challenges should be discussed in a network with other care institutions in order to learn from one another and benefit from shared experience.
